It became The Beatles' last number-one song in the United States on 23 May 1970, and was the last single released by the quartet. "The Long and Winding Road" was listed with "For You Blue" as a double-sided hit when the single hit number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 in 1970. While the released version of the song was very successful, the post-production modifications to the song by producer Phil Spector angered McCartney to the point that when he made his case in court for breaking up The Beatles as a legal entity, McCartney cited the treatment of "The Long and Winding Road" as one of six reasons for doing so. McCartney originally wrote the song at his farm in Scotland, and was inspired by the growing tension among The Beatles.[

A beautiful, haunting masterpiece. It's great--and a little sad--to see all four Beatles together for one of their final songs.

DaddyTre65 @ Oct 11, 2011

before today ends, i must listen it!!

ericksongt @ Oct 11, 2011

What the fuck... I like Lennon's bass part. Well, not impresive, but not as bad as they make it out to be.

BilisNegra @ Oct 11, 2011

even though the beatles them selves had broke by the 1970 their legacy carried on some matrial wasn't released as a single in the 60s were eventually released in the 70s 80s & 90s

gallafey @ Oct 12, 2011

Little known fact: "The Long & Winding Road" and "Let it be" were written on the same day!

Zer0Cog @ Oct 13, 2011

George has the craziest chord changes in the later years of the Beatles, and they're so beautiful with the Moog. And John plying the 6 string fender bass. There are and were some beautiful people in this world

MrHobocopter @ Oct 13, 2011

its sad to look upon their faces and just realize, 'oh my god, i don't see who they use to be anymore.' its almost like they knew at this moment that they were breaking up and that something bad would follow... its a haunting peice really

lisa8797 @ Oct 14, 2011

@chriskar5 Hahahaha.... Oh, well, of course there were cellphones in 1970, no matter the size... In some distant galaxy some intelligent beings invented them before us :-P

Beatles will never die.

TheBillycosmo @ Oct 17, 2011

I'm probably the luckiest guy today, I just found my old Beatles' 33rpm in my attic. It gave me a feeling I tought I would never have again but it was wonderful. Thank Paul...

ddvepprker @ Oct 17, 2011

pianobillf @ Oct 18, 2011

With all of the turmoil surrounding them and between them at this point it is a testament to their genious that they could still create such beauty.

pianobillf @ Oct 18, 2011

It's really a shame they couldn't resolve their differences. It would've been interesting to see how they would have faired in the 70s. Not only them but other sixties icons as well, living as well as deceased.
