0:18 how is it even possible to clap so off-beat?

nge1301 @ Dec 27, 2011

any band would give they'r balls for just one greenwood, any of them, and radiohead got two.

nmrrt @ Dec 30, 2011

@nge1301 i don't really know whether you have a lot of musical knowledge, so i'll explain assuming you don't. The first part of this song has an unusual 7/8 beat. It means in basic terms that you must count to 7 and then return to 1 at a certain (fast) speed. People were clapping every 2 "numbers", in a 4/4 beat. Basically they were off-beat because the song "beat count" returned to 1 everytime the people's "beat count" reached 3.5. Was that clear enough? :P

Gottheit2008 @ Jan 2, 2012

@breachmania HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!! Perfect, man!!!!

ffsf739 @ Jan 5, 2012

@Gottheit2008 I think you completely missed the point. It was a rhetorical question.

VisitorCz @ Jan 8, 2012

@VisitorCz not really, doesn't seem like one. I was just trying to explain.

Gottheit2008 @ Jan 8, 2012

@Gottheit2008 nah dude, I know that the song is in 7/8 but the people were clapping in every beat, so its irrelevant if the song is in 7/8, they were just off beat just take 1:25 as an example. that part is in 4/4, and they were still off beat.

nge1301 @ Jan 9, 2012

bueno para q entremos en ambiente bien afinadito como yo mi fafis para cantar jajajaja

darkeststar80y1 @ Jan 10, 2012

@nge1301 ok i admit i only took the intro in consideration. And sorry to insist on it again, but the people weren't clapping in every beat in the intro. They were clapping every 2 beats, which puts them off-beat every other turn.

Gottheit2008 @ Jan 11, 2012

@Gottheit2008 but they were clapping on every beat! it doesnt seem like it (because its so off beat), but if you see in the beginning, thom snaps his fingers in every beat and the crowd follows it. they start to fuck up at 0:16

nge1301 @ Jan 11, 2012

damn ya!

asafel @ Jan 13, 2012

why is smashing pumpkins on the suggetions list

bradleyds380 @ Jan 14, 2012

@nge1301 the problem in this discussion is the following: I say (with 100% belief) that they are clapping on every other beat, you say it's in every beat. I suggest that you count the actual beats at twice the speed.

Gottheit2008 @ Jan 16, 2012

@Gottheit2008 ok, at 0:05, I'm sure you'd agree with me that Thom is snapping his fingers in every beat, right? And the crowd is following him, clapping on every beat, right? Just to make sure we're on the same page here, Jonnys Guitar is playing 2 notes a beat.

nge1301 @ Jan 16, 2012

@nge1301 @nge1301 that's the problem! Thom isn't snapping in every beat! He is snapping in beats 1, 3, 5, 7, 2, 4, 6, 1, 3, ... and that is why the clapping goes off-beat. I accept that it is absolutely normal for crowds to speed up the clapping and go off-beat but I sincerely believe that this isn't the case. For you to understand exactly how I believe (with a lot of confidence) that the metronome for this song is, go to Webmetronome . com and set 150 bpm, 7 beats p/cycle, accent on 1

Gottheit2008 @ Jan 16, 2012

@Gottheit2008 do you agree that Thom is snapping his fingers in 150bpm? because that's what he's doing. And, like you said, the intro is in 150bpm, 7/8.

nge1301 @ Jan 16, 2012

@nge1301 i tried to count to 7 at the rhythm thom is snapping and well.. it does work! :P what I did was always counting at twice the speed and it always worked (14-beat in this case) i admit, you're right xD still, i'm not yet sure which speed fits best, thom's 7-beat or twice as much.

Gottheit2008 @ Jan 16, 2012

I WANT TO SEE THIS FULL CONCERT! Anyone know if it's available somewhere? I can't even imagine what it would've been like if I had the internet in the late seventies and early eighties when I was still in high school. OOPS, I let my age out. That's ok. I will be sitting in my rocking chair in my 80s rocking out to some awesome music like this! FUCK YEAH!

piperjo99 @ Jan 18, 2012
